Toilet Seats and Laziness
Why do guys always leave the toilet seat up?
Laziness? Lack of consideration? An inability to predict who will need to use it for what bodily function next?
Truthfully, I’ve never understood the fuss over this. How often do women put the seat up for men? Consideration works both ways!
Personally, I just always leave it down as I can hit the smaller target and thus avoid the issue altogether, but really: Is the two seconds of extra effort really worth the fuss so many seem to make over this issue?
I’m going for the easy, short answer today as I’m spending the day with my little girls. ![]()

If the toilet seat is left up, then the woman runs a very high risk of sitting down on the bowl, falling in and getting her delicate rump soaking wet with god-knows-what. It’s happened to me and it’s awful.
What horrible thing happens to men if the toilet seat is down? HMMMMM???

OK well this is how I look at it.
Males have 2 jobs to do on the toilet, one the seat is up, the other the seat is down.
Females have 2 jobs to do on the toilet, one the seat is down, the other the seat is down.
So out of the 4 possible jobs the seat is down for 3 of them, therefore the seat should be put down. PLUS who want to see the underside of the seat and the rim and all the possible grossness that could be collected there?

I don’t understand the fuss either! I look before I sit. Now peeing all over the seat is a different issue, but luckily my husband doesn’t do that.

“PLUS who want to see the underside of the seat and the rim and all the possible grossness that could be collected there?”
Oh, I have to agree with that. But if it’s UP, he can’t ignore it and you can make him clean it. If it’s down all of the time, he’ll claim ignorance! (I kid, I kid….)

Living with five brothers, I’m happy with them raising the seat at all. If I ever get married, I can’t ever see fighting over ‘hey, put the seat BACK DOWN!’.

I live with 3 men. One is yet to be potty trained. I don’t care if they put the seat up or down. Really, there are more important things to learn. And fighting about it with my husband is stupid. Plus I don’t care who has to put it up or down. It’s a part of going to the bathroom.

I read somewhere that bacteria shoots something like 20 feet up into the air when you flush the toilet. Think of all the stuff in your bathroom, like the toothbrush. Do you really want to be getting bacteria on all that?
Put the seat down. Put the lid down. Now everyone needs to lift something to use it. And your bathroom stays cleaner.

I live in a house with of 5 males.
I leave the seat up.
P.S. We keep our toothbrushes in our bedrooms.

My logic is the same as Black Dog’s if we’re talking one man and one woman: men only have one function where they have to sit down, whereas women have two functions where they have to sit down. So to go with the majority, the seat should be left down. And, even though I do look before I use the toilet, there have been times that I’ve stumbled in without my glasses or contacts, couldn’t see that the seat was left up, and fell into toilet water. Our hoo-hoo’s are very susceptible to infections, and the last thing we need is toilet water soaking them.
This is just one reason why I’ve never shared a bathroom with a man - I’ve ALWAYS had my own. I’ve lived with three men in my life, two to whom I was married, and I always had my own bathroom. Yes, fighting over the toilet seat is silly, but that’s what happens when I’ve had to share on certain occasions (staying in a hotel, for example), so for the sake of keeping the peace, the bathrooms are kept separate
I was involved with one man who always put the seat back down, and it was because he lived with his two teen girls and had a girlfriend, so he was considerate of the fact that he should leave the seat down for 3 women vs. 1 man. And considering the other commenters here who have multiple males in their households, the women are outnumbered and it makes sense logically that the seat be left up.

My hubs sits on the toilet to do his business… yes both types of business. He feels that standing is for nasty public restrooms and that his bathroom is for his comfort so he sits. Fine by me…
